L V Prasad Eye Institute Hosts Children’s Eye Care Awareness Walk to Combat Childhood Cataracts
Hyderabad: In a bid to raise awareness about childhood cataracts and the importance of early intervention, the L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) conducted a Children’s Eye Care Awareness Walk on Sunday, November 10. The walk was part of the ongoing Eye Care Awareness Week, observed annually from November 7 to November 14, which this year is focusing on childhood cataracts.
Raising Awareness on Childhood Cataracts
The walk aimed to educate the public on the critical impact of childhood cataracts on a child’s vision, highlighting the importance of early detection and treatment. Cataracts, if left untreated, can result in irreversible vision loss, making timely medical intervention crucial. Dr. Ramesh Kekunnaya, Head of the Child Sight Institute at LVPEI, emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, stating, “The outcomes are directly proportional to the stage at which it is diagnosed. Catch Early, Act Early to see Clearly.”
The awareness drive encouraged parents to be proactive in seeking medical advice at the earliest signs of vision impairment in children, as early intervention can prevent lifelong vision problems.
Week-Long Celebrations and Activities
Throughout the week, LVPEI organized several fun-filled and educational activities for children, which were also open to the children of hospital employees. These activities included a variety of competitions such as painting, fancy dress, elocution, clay modelling, braille reading, and pottery sessions. These initiatives not only entertained but also educated children about the importance of eye care.
Concluding with a Grand Celebration
The Eye Care Awareness Week will conclude on Children’s Day, November 14, with a prize distribution ceremony, a magic show, and an awareness talk on childhood cataracts. The event promises to be an engaging and informative finale, helping to spread the message about childhood cataracts to a wider audience.
The initiative by LVPEI is a significant step towards building awareness about a condition that affects many children, ensuring that more families are equipped with the knowledge to seek timely treatment and preserve their children’s vision for the future.
