Bakhtiyarpur: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi announced on Monday that the INDIA bloc, if elected to power, would abolish the Agnipath recruitment scheme for the defense services and ensure a monthly deposit of Rs 8,500 into the account of every woman.
Speaking at an election rally in Bakhtiyarpur, Bihar, Gandhi expressed confidence that Narendra Modi would not return as Prime Minister, citing a strong nationwide wave in favor of the INDIA bloc.
“When the INDIA bloc forms the government, the Agnipath scheme will be withdrawn,” Gandhi stated.
The Agnipath scheme, introduced by the Narendra Modi government in 2022, aims to recruit young soldiers on a contractual basis for four years, with 75% of them retiring without certain benefits granted to regular soldiers.
Gandhi also pledged that, under an INDIA bloc government, Rs 8,500 would be deposited monthly into women’s accounts starting from July, significantly improving the financial condition of families.
In a light-hearted remark referencing the Prime Minister’s ‘sent by God’ comment, Gandhi quipped, “After June 4, if the Enforcement Directorate asks Modi about corruption, he will say ‘I don’t know anything… I was sent by God’.”
