New Delhi: As discussions about seat-sharing alliances intensify within the ‘INDIA’ coalition political grouping, leaders at the forefront of these negotiations are also deliberating on a potential power-sharing arrangement for the country’s top post should the INDIA alliance emerge victorious in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Sources familiar with the ongoing negotiations, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the talks, indicated that a rotational formula, allocating one year as Prime Minister to the top leaders of the participating political parties based on the number of Lok Sabha seats won, is under consideration.
The seat-sharing talks within the INDIA alliance have faced challenges in some states, most notably in West Bengal. Additionally, there is friction in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, where two coalition members, Rahul Gandhi from the Congress and Annie Raja from the Communist Party of India, are contesting against each other.
However, sources further clarified that these are preliminary tensions, which are expected to be resolved should the INDIA alliance stage a significant upset and defeat the incumbent NDA alliance led by Prime Minister Modi.
“We need to strategize now; the nation expects the INDIA alliance to have a clear leadership plan in a post-BJP scenario. Therefore, every aspect is being meticulously discussed,” the source added.
