PM Modi Highlights India’s Role in Global Energy Growth at India Energy Week
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday emphasized India’s significant role in driving both domestic and global economic growth, particularly through the energy sector, during his address at the India Energy Week.
He welcomed delegates and partners from around the world, highlighting their critical role in shaping India’s energy ambitions. “Today, every expert in the world is saying that the 21st century is India’s century. India is not only driving its own growth, but also global growth, and our energy sector has an important role in it,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister laid the foundation for India’s energy goals, which rest on five key pillars: abundant resources, brilliant minds, economic strength, political stability, strategic geography, and a commitment to global sustainability. He also outlined key targets for 2030, including adding 500 gigawatts of energy capacity, achieving net-zero carbon emissions for Indian Railways, and producing green hydrogen.
PM Modi reflected on India’s progress over the last decade, noting that the country has become the fifth-largest economy, doubled its solar generation capacity, and tripled its non-fossil fuel energy capacity. He also mentioned India’s leadership in sustainability, highlighting the nation’s achievements in biofuels and its role in the Global Biofuels Alliance, which includes 28 nations and 12 international organizations.
Further, he discussed significant policy initiatives like the Open Acreage License Policy (OALP), the opening of the exclusive economic zone, and a single-window clearance system to attract investment in the hydrocarbon sector.
Concluding his speech, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and expressed hope that the India Energy Week would inspire innovative breakthroughs in the sector, ensuring energy solutions that drive growth while preserving the environment.
