Indian Men’s Rugby Team to Make Landmark Debut in Asia Rugby Men’s 15s Championship Division-1
Mumbai: The Indian Men’s 15s Rugby team is set to achieve a significant milestone as they participate in the Asia Rugby Men’s 15s Championship Division-1 for the first time in history.
Securing a spot in Division-1 marks a notable advancement for the Indian team, positioning them closer to competing at the highest echelon in Asia, the Asia Rugby 15s Championship.
Under the leadership of seasoned campaigner Deepak Punia and his deputy Hitesh Dagar, the men’s team will kick off their journey against Sri Lanka in their inaugural match on April 30.
Meanwhile, Qatar and Kazakhstan will vie for a place in the finals, with the victor between India and Sri Lanka advancing to the next stage.
The champions of this competition will earn the opportunity to compete in the Asia Rugby 15s Championship, facing off against esteemed teams such as Korea, Hong Kong China, and Malaysia, ranked 30th, 24th, and 50th respectively on the global stage.
This campaign sees the debut of five players, namely Vallabh Patil, Shakti Nag, Abhishek Shukla, Joginder, and Ajit Hansdah, who have demonstrated remarkable promise and mental fortitude, qualities that have earned them a place in the Indian team.
