Indian Parliamentary Delegation Engages European Parliament on Cross-Border Terrorism, Operation Sindoor

A high-level all-party Parliamentary delegation from India, led by senior BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, held a significant meeting on Thursday with European Parliament Vice-President Christel Schaldemose in Brussels. The discussions focused on Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism and the recent Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed multiple lives.

The Indian Embassy in Belgium shared on X (formerly Twitter):

“A good opportunity to brief at senior parliamentary level the use of cross-border terrorism as an instrument of state policy to disrupt progress in Kashmir and communalise the situation. Condemnation of heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam and appreciation for India’s firm policy of zero-tolerance on terrorism.” Ravi Shankar Prasad also posted on social media, emphasizing the strategic importance of the engagement:

“We apprised the Vice-President of the European Parliament about the situation in India regarding Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. We requested that she consider highlighting the cost of supporting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, especially in the context of international aid. Her affection for India and commitment to democratic values was deeply appreciated.”

In a subsequent media interaction in Brussels, the delegation elaborated on India’s robust counter-terrorism measures, including Operation Sindoor—India’s calibrated military response to the Pahalgam attack. The delegation emphasized that the operation reflects India’s steadfast policy of zero tolerance toward terrorism.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the Indian delegation held meetings with several Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), where topics such as global peace, counter-terrorism strategies, and strengthening India-EU relations were discussed. The MEPs expressed strong solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam attack and acknowledged India’s efforts in combating terrorism.

The delegation also engaged with prominent Brussels-based think tanks, offering in-depth perspectives on India’s security policy and the continuing threat of cross-border terrorism. These discussions served to further international understanding of the challenges posed by terrorism originating from Pakistan.

In parallel, members of the Indian diaspora in Belgium met with the delegation and conveyed their deep concern over recent attacks. They reiterated their unwavering support for India’s counter-terrorism initiatives and the government’s principled stand against terrorism.

The nine-member Indian delegation represents a broad political spectrum, including Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP), Daggubati Purandeswari (BJP), Priyanka Chaturvedi (Shiv Sena-UBT), Ghulam Ali Khatana (BJP), Amar Singh (Congress), Samik Bhattacharya (BJP), M. Thambidurai (AIADMK), former Union Minister M.J. Akbar, and former Ambassador Pankaj Saran.

The delegation’s visit to Belgium is part of a larger diplomatic outreach across Europe—including recent stops in France, Italy, Denmark, and the United Kingdom—aimed at reinforcing global awareness of Pakistan’s state-sponsored terrorism and promoting international collaboration on security and counter-terrorism.
