India Sets Record for Highest Team Total in Women’s Test Cricket
Chennai: On Saturday, India recorded the highest team total in women’s Test cricket on day two of the one-off Test against South Africa, surpassing the previous best of 575/9 set by Australia.
Australia had achieved their record in Perth this February, but India broke it when Richa Ghosh hit a four off the first ball of the 109th over, bowled by Annerie Dercksen.
Significant credit for this achievement goes to Indian openers Shafali Verma (205) and Smriti Mandhana (149), who shared a remarkable stand of 292 runs—the highest opening partnership in women’s cricket history.
Their efforts were further supported by Jemimah Rodrigues (55), as well as skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh, who are both currently unbeaten with scores exceeding fifty.
On Day 1, India had concluded with a score of 525 for four, setting the highest-ever single-day total in a Test match. This broke the previous record held by the Sri Lankan men’s team, who scored 509 for nine against Bangladesh in Colombo in 2002.
