India’s Champions Trophy Squad Delayed, BCCI Seeks Extension for Announcement
The highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to kick off on February 19, 2025, with matches scheduled in Pakistan and Dubai. However, India’s squad for the tournament has yet to be officially announced. According to reports from Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is facing delays in finalizing the team. The original deadline for the squad announcement, as per ICC regulations, was January 12, but the BCCI has not yet made any formal declaration.
Reports suggest that the BCCI has requested an extension from the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the squad announcement is now expected to be pushed to January 18 or 19.
In the interim, the selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is likely to announce the squad for the upcoming white-ball series against England. Set to begin on January 22, this series will feature five T20 matches, followed by three ODIs. Suryakumar Yadav is expected to lead the T20 squad, with the series serving as a crucial opportunity for players to prove their form ahead of the Champions Trophy.
The recent 5-match Test series against Australia ended in disappointment for India, raising expectations that some tough selection decisions may be made for the upcoming tournaments. Key players, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, are reportedly being considered for inclusion in the 50-over squad for the Champions Trophy. Additionally, fast bowler Mohammed Shami’s return for the ODI series against England is being discussed, while Arshdeep Singh’s potential inclusion in the squad is also under consideration.
With the deadline for the Champions Trophy squad looming and key decisions on the horizon, the cricketing world is eagerly awaiting India’s team selection for the prestigious tournament.
