Infosys has recently terminated approximately 800 trainees after they failed to clear the company’s internal assessment examinations. This marks the fourth such round of terminations in the current year, with the latest batch of 195 trainees dismissed in April. The affected trainees, who had been recruited in 2022 and onboarded in October 2024, were let go after multiple attempts to pass the final examination conducted following their internal training program.

In response to the terminations, Infosys has offered a severance package that includes a one-month ex-gratia payment and a relieving letter. Additionally, the company is providing free upskilling opportunities through institutions such as NIIT and upGrad. Approximately 250 trainees have availed themselves of these training resources so far, while another 150 have registered for Infosys’ outplacement support services.

Infosys maintains that the internal assessment process is a standard procedure and has been in place for over two decades. The company asserts that all trainees are informed about the evaluation criteria and are given multiple attempts to clear the assessments. However, the recent wave of terminations has sparked criticism from various quarters, with some alleging that the assessments were unduly challenging and that the process lacked transparency.

The company has stated that it is committed to supporting the affected trainees through the offered severance packages and upskilling programs, aiming to assist them in transitioning to new career opportunities.
