Brevis Blitz Powers CSK to Thrilling Win Over KKR in IPL 2025 Clash
Kolkata, May 7: A breathtaking 22-ball half-century from Dewald Brevis propelled Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a dramatic two-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a high-stakes IPL 2025 encounter at Eden Gardens on Wednesday. The win dealt a significant blow to KKR’s playoff aspirations as CSK successfully chased down a target of 180 with two balls to spare.
Earlier, left-arm spinner Noor Ahmad starred with the ball for CSK, claiming 4 for 31 to help restrict the hosts to 179/6 after Ajinkya Rahane (48) and Andre Russell (38) had laid a solid foundation for KKR.
However, the chase got off to a disastrous start for the five-time champions. Ayush Mhatre departed for a duck in the opening over, and debutant Urvil Patel, despite a blazing 31 off 11 balls that included three sixes and a four, also fell early. Moeen Ali struck back by bowling Devon Conway through the gate, and CSK further slumped when Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja departed cheaply, reducing the visitors to a precarious 60/5 at the end of the powerplay.
Facing an uphill battle, Brevis and Shivam Dube orchestrated a recovery. The pair cautiously negotiated the spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy before launching a counterattack. Brevis shifted gears in the 11th over, hammering Vaibhav Arora for three sixes and two fours in a blistering display that brought up his fifty in just 22 deliveries. The 30-run over turned the tide in CSK’s favor.
Brevis’s counterattack ended on 52 off 25 balls when he holed out to long-on off Chakaravarthy, but Dube ensured the chase stayed on track with a composed 45 off 40 deliveries. He struck two vital sixes off Harshit Rana and a boundary off Russell to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Just as CSK appeared to be coasting home, Arora revived KKR’s hopes by dismissing both Dube and Noor Ahmad in quick succession. With eight runs needed off the final over, MS Dhoni once again showcased his finishing prowess, slamming Russell for a six. Anshul Kamboj then lofted the winning boundary over mid-off, sealing a nail-biting win for CSK.
