Shubman Gill Credits Bowlers and Partnership with Sundar in Gujarat Titans’ Dominant Win
Gujarat Titans’ captain Shubman Gill lauded his bowlers for their exceptional performance following their commanding seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025 fixture on Sunday.
Mohammed Siraj played a pivotal role, claiming his career-best IPL figures of 4-17, which helped restrict Hyderabad to a modest total of 152/8 in their 20 overs. Rashid Khan and Prasidh Krishna also played key roles, each picking up two wickets, putting Hyderabad’s batters under pressure throughout the innings.
In reply, Gill remained unbeaten on 61, leading the chase with crucial contributions from Washington Sundar (49) and Sherfane Rutherford, who powered the team to victory with an explosive 35* off just 17 balls. Gujarat Titans reached the target with 20 balls to spare.
During the post-match presentation, Gill emphasized the importance of bowlers in T20 cricket, saying, “Bowlers are game-changers, especially in this format. A lot of people talk about big-hitters, but bowlers win you games. We wanted to play shots all along the ground, that was the chat between me and Washington Sundar.”
The duo of Gill and Sundar shared a match-defining 90-run partnership off just 56 balls after Gujarat Titans lost two early wickets—Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler. Gill specifically praised Sundar for his excellent debut knock, stating, “He (Sundar) was padded up in the match against MI but with the Impact player rule, you have to change your plans at times. The way he batted today was fantastic. There was no conversation as such, it was all about playing good cricketing shots, and once we had a 30-40 run partnership, it was taking the game from there.”
With this all-round performance, Gujarat Titans firmly took control of the match, and Shubman Gill’s leadership and solid batting played a crucial part in their comprehensive win.
