Iran’s Foreign Minister Advocates Ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, Warns Israel of Proportional Response
In a recent visit to Damascus, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi expressed Iran’s firm support for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, emphasizing the country’s commitment to the “resistance” against Israel. He underscored Iran’s readiness to respond proportionately to any Israeli attacks, with the potential for a stronger reaction if deemed necessary.
During a press conference concluding his one-day visit, Araghchi outlined two primary concerns: addressing the needs of Lebanese refugees and achieving a ceasefire in the ongoing conflicts. He confirmed that Iran has already dispatched humanitarian aid to assist Lebanese refugees in Syria, with additional support on the way.
Araghchi issued a stern warning regarding the possibility of an Israeli strike on Iran, stating, “Our response to any Israeli strike will be proportional, and even stronger if necessary.” He noted that Iran has previously demonstrated its resolve and is prepared to do so again if provoked.
While discussing regional and international initiatives aimed at securing a ceasefire, Araghchi did not divulge specific details but insisted that any proposed conditions must be acceptable to both Palestinians and Lebanese.
Highlighting the enduring strategic partnership between Iran and Syria, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to supporting Syria under all circumstances. During his visit, he also met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi Jalali to discuss cooperation in providing humanitarian assistance to Lebanese families affected by the ongoing Israeli military operations in Lebanon.
This visit underscores Iran’s ongoing influence in the region and its commitment to addressing humanitarian crises arising from the conflicts.
