Title: Iranian Defense Minister Dismisses U.S. THAAD Delivery to Israel as Psychological Warfare
Tehran: Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh has downplayed the recent U.S. delivery of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-ballistic missile system to Israel, characterizing it as part of the “enemy’s psychological warfare.” Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a weekly cabinet meeting in Tehran, Nasirzadeh stated that the THAAD system is not a new development and has been in existence for some time.
“We assess such actions as being in line with the enemy’s psychological warfare. There is no particular problem in that regard,” he remarked, emphasizing Iran’s perspective on the military equipment transfer.
The U.S. announcement, made on Sunday, confirmed the deployment of the THAAD system along with American personnel to operate it. This decision comes amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, particularly following Iran’s missile strikes on Israeli targets earlier this month.
On October 1, Iran launched approximately 180 missiles in what it described as retaliation for the assassinations of leaders of regional resistance groups and for Israel’s military actions against Lebanese and Palestinian factions. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the strikes, warning that Iran had made a “grave mistake” and vowed to take retaliatory action.
The situation continues to evolve as both nations remain on high alert, reflecting the broader geopolitical tensions in the region.
