BJP’s Smriti Irani Slams Congress, INDIA Bloc, Promises Maharashtra’s Progress Ahead of Elections
Kalyan: BJP leader Smriti Irani on Friday launched a strong critique of the Congress-led INDIA alliance, accusing them of being more focused on their own political development than on the welfare of Maharashtra. Speaking at a party event in Kalyan, located in the Thane district, Irani stated that while the opposition parties are engrossed in their internal power struggles, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s primary concern remains the state’s progress.
“While the opposition is preoccupied with their own growth, the BJP’s agenda is focused on the development of Maharashtra,” Irani asserted. She further accused the Congress and the INDIA bloc of distributing money and attempting to divide society, accusing them of looting the nation under the guise of presenting dreams of progress.
Irani also took a jibe at the recent controversy involving Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, where an inquiry was initiated over samosas and cakes meant for his security personnel. The BJP leader questioned the lack of investigations when Congress leaders were allegedly involved in larger-scale corruption. “There was no probe when Congress looted the country’s exchequer,” Irani remarked, adding that the opposition’s attempts to deflect attention to trivial matters such as samosas were merely a diversion.
Sukhu, on his part, clarified that the probe was not focused on the samosas, as the media had portrayed it, but was rather aimed at addressing concerns over the “misbehaviour” of officials involved. He dismissed the BJP’s attack as “childish.”
In her address, Irani also targeted the opposition’s alleged disrespect towards key figures in Indian history, accusing the Congress-led alliance of undermining the legacy of Hindutva icon Veer Savarkar and Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
As Maharashtra gears up for the assembly elections on November 20, Irani’s remarks reflect the BJP’s strategy of focusing on the state’s development and contrasting their vision with that of the opposition, whose infighting, according to Irani, remains a key challenge.
The results for the 288-member Maharashtra assembly will be declared on November 23.
