New Delhi: The Bajrang Dal is set to hold a nationwide protest on Wednesday in response to a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, which resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, including a two-year-old child, and left several others injured, a senior Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) official announced on Tuesday.
Bajrang Dal, the youth wing of the VHP, is affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological foundation of the BJP.
Condemning the attack, VHP General Secretary (Organisation) Milind Parande stated, “This was a cowardly assault by Islamic terrorists supported by Pakistan.”
He added, “Bajrang Dal has decided to burn effigies representing Islamic terrorism nationwide on Wednesday and will submit a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu through district collectors, urging strict action against the perpetrators.”
The terror attack occurred on Sunday when terrorists opened fire on a 53-seater bus carrying pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi, en route from the Shiv Khori temple to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra near Teryath village in the Poni area.
The VHP leader paid tribute to the victims and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Efforts to track down the terrorists continued on Tuesday, with 11 security teams deployed and a multi-directional cordon established around the Poni-Treyath belt, according to officials.
Security forces have heightened alert levels in Jammu and Rajouri districts, intensifying checks and frisking in the area following the attack, which left nine dead and 41 injured. More than 20 people have been detained for questioning as part of the investigation.
