Andhra Pradesh Government Invites Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to Amaravati Capital Works Restart Ceremony

In a significant political development, the Andhra Pradesh state government has formally extended an invitation to YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to attend the restart ceremony of the Amaravati capital development works, scheduled for tomorrow. The event will be marked by the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is set to address a public gathering during the occasion.

On Wednesday evening, state protocol officials visited Jagan Mohan Reddy’s residence in Tadepalli to deliver the official invitation. As he was unavailable at the time, the invitation was handed over to his personal assistant, K. Nageswara Reddy.

The invitation comes amidst heightened political attention, particularly due to the historical context surrounding Amaravati. During the previous Telugu Desam Party (TDP) regime, Jagan Mohan Reddy had been invited to the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Amaravati but chose not to attend. His own government, during its tenure, had introduced a controversial three-capital policy, proposing Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, and Kurnool as legislative, executive, and judicial capitals respectively—departing from the single-capital vision focused on Amaravati.

Given this backdrop, political observers are closely watching whether Jagan Mohan Reddy will accept the invitation and attend the high-profile ceremony. His decision is expected to carry significant political symbolism, particularly in the lead-up to future electoral strategies and public positioning on the capital issue.

Meanwhile, in preparation for the Prime Minister’s visit, Minister for Municipal Administration Ponguru Narayana has taken charge of overseeing all arrangements. He has issued strict instructions to officials to ensure flawless execution of the program. Sources confirm that nearly all logistical and security arrangements for the Prime Minister’s public address and associated events have been completed.

The ceremony marks a renewed focus on Amaravati as the singular capital of Andhra Pradesh, signaling a potential shift in the state’s administrative and developmental priorities.
