Jagan Named in Guntur Fatal Convoy Accident; Police Invoke Sections for Intentional Death

A case has been formally registered against YSR Congress Party chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in connection with the recent death of a man who was run over during his convoy’s tour in Guntur district. The deceased, Singayya, was fatally struck by a vehicle in Jagan’s convoy during the Rentapalla visit.

Police have named Jagan as the second accused (A2) in the case, following a complaint filed by the victim’s wife, Lurthumeri, at the Nallapadu police station. Initially booked under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the charges were revised to include Sections 105 and 49 after video evidence confirmed that Singayya was run over by Jagan’s vehicle.

Guntur District SP Satish Kumar held a press conference Sunday night, detailing the findings of the investigation. “Permission was granted for 11 vehicles and 3 support vehicles for the former CM’s travel from Tadepalli to Rentapalla on June 18. However, the convoy violated these limits, proceeding with nearly 50 vehicles,” said the SP.

The incident occurred near the Anjaneyaswamy statue at the Etukuru Bypass under Nallapadu Police Station limits. Police say CCTV, drone footage, and eyewitness accounts confirm that Singayya fell beneath a Fortuner SUV used by Jagan and was run over by the rear wheel. Despite emergency medical efforts, he was declared dead at the hospital.

In addition to Jagan, the following individuals have also been named in the FIR:

  • Ramana Reddy, the driver of the SUV (A1)
  • K. Nageswara Reddy, Jagan’s personal secretary (A3)
  • YV Subba Reddy (A4)
  • Perni Nani (A5)
  • Vidadala Rajini (A6)

“The video and forensic evidence collected clearly establish the circumstances of the incident,” SP Satish Kumar said, adding that legal action will be pursued against all those found responsible. The case has now taken a serious legal turn, with charges reflecting intentional and negligent acts leading to death.
