India Reaffirms Measured Yet Firm Stand Amid Escalation: EAM Jaishankar Engages Global Counterparts
In the wake of heightened military tensions and Pakistan’s provocative missile attacks on Indian cities, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar held a series of high-level diplomatic conversations late Thursday night with key international counterparts, reiterating India’s firm resolve to counter terrorism and warning of a strong response to any further escalation.
Speaking with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, EAM Jaishankar underscored India’s commitment to a “targeted and measured response to cross-border terrorism” while clearly stating that India “will firmly counter any attempts at escalation.” The conversation reflected a strategic convergence between the two democracies on counter-terror cooperation.
Secretary Rubio, in turn, extended condolences for the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 Hindu pilgrims were killed, and reaffirmed Washington’s solidarity with New Delhi. “The Secretary reiterated his condolences for the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to work with India in the fight against terrorism,” read a statement from the U.S. State Department.
At the same time, the U.S. also emphasized the importance of de-escalation and encouraged both India and Pakistan to maintain direct lines of communication. Secretary Rubio expressed support for ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, while acknowledging India’s right to self-defense.
The External Affairs Minister also engaged with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. During their conversation, Jaishankar reiterated India’s intent to “firmly counter terrorism” and issued a clear message: “Any escalation will see a strong response.”
Continuing India’s outreach to European partners, EAM Jaishankar spoke with Kaja Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission. He briefed her on recent developments and India’s calibrated approach in responding to Pakistan’s provocations. “India has been measured in its actions. However, any escalation will get a firm response,” Jaishankar posted on social media platform X after the call.
These engagements reflect India’s proactive diplomacy aimed at securing global support for its anti-terror stance while maintaining strategic restraint. In the face of Pakistan’s recent missile aggression, India has made it clear that while it will not seek conflict, it will respond decisively to threats against its sovereignty.
EAM Jaishankar’s outreach serves not only to reinforce India’s diplomatic ties with key allies but also to ensure that the international community is fully informed of the context and proportionality of India’s actions.
As the situation evolves, New Delhi remains firm in its dual commitment to upholding national security and preserving regional stability — with a clear message that terrorism and military adventurism will not go unanswered.
