US-India Partnership Key to Global Prosperity, Says Vice President J.D. Vance in Jaipur
In a compelling address at the RIC in Jaipur, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance emphasized the pivotal role of the U.S.-India partnership in shaping the course of the 21st century. Speaking before a diverse audience, Vance called for deeper collaboration between the two democracies to ensure a future marked by peace and prosperity.
“We are now officially one quarter into the 21st century—25 years down, 75 to go,” Vance remarked. “I truly believe that the future of this century will be determined by the strength of the U.S.-India relationship. If we succeed in working together, this century can be the most prosperous and peaceful in human history. But if we fail, the consequences could be grave for all of humanity.”
Praising Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s long-term vision, Vance stated, “PM Modi is a serious leader who has thought deeply about India’s future prosperity and security—not just during his time in office, but looking a century ahead.”
Vance also addressed the broader global economic landscape, highlighting the ongoing efforts by former U.S. President Donald Trump to “rebalance America’s economic relationship with the rest of the world.” He framed these actions as necessary changes that could yield significant benefits for both American and Indian workers.
On the topic of trade, Vice President Vance reaffirmed the two nations’ ambitious goal of doubling bilateral trade to $500 billion by the end of the decade. “President Trump and Prime Minister Modi meant it when they made that announcement. Our governments are diligently working on a comprehensive trade agreement focused on job creation, resilient supply chains, and mutual prosperity,” he said.
Significantly, Vance confirmed a breakthrough in bilateral trade negotiations. “Prime Minister Modi and I made strong progress in our meeting on Monday. Today, I’m pleased to announce that the United States and India have officially finalised the terms of reference for our trade negotiation. This is a crucial milestone that paves the way toward a meaningful and mutually beneficial trade agreement.”
He concluded his speech with an optimistic appeal: “There is so much that America and India can achieve together. Let’s do it—together.”
Vice President Vance’s remarks come at a time when both countries are seeking to deepen strategic and economic ties amid a rapidly evolving global order. His speech is seen as a reaffirmation of bipartisan support in the U.S. for a stronger and enduring partnership with India.
