Jairam Ramesh Highlights Special Category Status Demands in All-Party Meeting
New Delhi– Congress leader Jairam Ramesh disclosed insights from an all-party meeting held ahead of the Parliament session, where demands for special category status were raised by key political leaders. According to Ramesh, leaders from the JD(U) and YSRCP advocated for special category status for Bihar and Andhra Pradesh respectively, while the TDP remained notably silent on the issue.
The meeting, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, saw JD(U) and YSRCP representatives voicing their states’ aspirations for special category status. Jairam Ramesh shared his observations on social media, stating, “In today’s all-party meeting of floor leaders, the JD(U) leader demanded special category status for Bihar. The YSRCP leader demanded special category status for Andhra Pradesh. Strangely, the TDP leader kept quiet on the matter.”
This development comes amidst renewed calls for special category status for Andhra Pradesh, especially gaining traction following the recent Lok Sabha elections. JD(U), a significant ally within the ruling NDA, had previously passed a resolution pushing for special status or an equivalent economic package for Bihar.
Further deliberations on these demands are anticipated to unfold during the upcoming Parliament session, shaping discussions on regional development and economic policies.
