In a candid and explosive revelation, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha has accused certain leaders within her own party of orchestrating her defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. She also alleged that during her incarceration in the Delhi liquor policy case, a section of the party proposed merging BRS with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—a move she claims to have strongly opposed.
Speaking informally with media representatives on Thursday, Kavitha dismissed speculation about launching a separate political outfit. She reaffirmed her loyalty to BRS and reiterated that she would continue working under the leadership of her father and party founder, K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). “I have no intention of breaking away. I belong to BRS and will stay here,” she declared, quashing rumors of internal defection or new political ventures.
Kavitha’s comments come amid heightened speculation of familial and political discord within the BRS. Her statements are seen as a veiled response to K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), her brother and the party’s Working President, with whom reports suggest she has had growing differences.
Referring to a confidential letter she had written to KCR that was recently leaked, Kavitha expressed dismay over the party’s silence regarding the breach. “I’m being targeted through paid media articles and coordinated social media trolling campaigns, simply for questioning how the letter got leaked,” she lamented.
She further stated, “When I was jailed, some within the party tried to use that opportunity to push for a BJP merger. I stood against it. Today, I’m being targeted for demanding accountability from these covert elements.” In a sensational claim, Kavitha said: “My defeat in Nizamabad wasn’t just a political loss—it was a betrayal from within. My own party leaders conspired against me.”
The MLC also revealed that she had considered resigning from politics after her arrest but was persuaded by her father not to do so. She dismissed media reports suggesting backchannel talks with the Congress party. “I have never spoken to Congress. KCR is my only leader,” she said firmly.
On the leaked letter, Kavitha explained: “I’ve written hundreds of letters to my father. He usually tears them after reading. This time, he didn’t. That says something. I don’t know who leaked it, but I am determined to uncover the truth.”
Directing criticism at the party’s muted response to external scrutiny, she pointed out the lack of reaction to the P.C. Ghose Commission’s notice on the Kaleshwaram project, subtly questioning KTR’s leadership. “Why hasn’t the party responded properly? Posting on X (formerly Twitter) is not enough,” she said.
Kavitha ended her remarks with a pointed message: “I won’t engage in backstabbing. I fight directly. There’s no need for a new party—what we need is to protect the one we have.”
