Pragya Jaiswal Honoured at Gaddar Telangana Film Awards for ‘Kanche’ and ‘Akhanda’
Actress Pragya Jaiswal received double recognition at the inaugural Gaddar Telangana Film Awards, as her acclaimed films ‘Kanche’ and ‘Akhanda’ were both awarded second-best film of the year. The ceremony, held in Hyderabad and backed by the Telangana Government, celebrated the legacy of the late revolutionary poet Gaddar and marked a significant cultural milestone for the state’s cinematic heritage.
Expressing her gratitude, Pragya shared,
“It’s the most credible and prestigious award one can receive. Both Kanche and Akhanda are very close to my heart. Kanche, in particular, is special—being my debut film and having received a National Award, a State Award, and Best Debut recognition. Receiving this honour from the Chief Minister of Telangana was incredibly validating.”
Pragya revealed that her parents were especially delighted by the news.
“They’ve always supported me, but this one made them extra proud. It’s humbling to see your work acknowledged like this.”
Reflecting on her journey, she credited director Krish Jagarlamudi, who helmed Kanche, for inspiring her with a lasting lesson:
“He once told me, ‘Epic or nothing,’ and those words have stayed with me. Even today, that mantra guides my choices.” On her experience working in Akhanda, Pragya praised legendary actor Nandamuri Balakrishna and director Boyapati Srinu, saying:
“I’ve never met anyone like Balakrishna sir—an actor and a person of such calibre. I consider it the greatest honour to have worked with him twice. Akhanda redefined my career, and I owe that turning point to Boyapati sir. He’s the king of mass cinema, and this magnum opus elevated my journey to new heights.”
Pragya concluded by acknowledging that while Kanche was her dream debut, Akhanda transformed her standing in the industry, both critically and commercially.
