KCR Urges Centre to Halt Operation Kagar, Calls for Peace Talks with Maoists
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) has called on the BJP-led central government to cease its Operation Kagar against Maoist insurgents and initiate peace talks.
Addressing a large public gathering at Elkathurthy in Hanamkonda district to commemorate the silver jubilee of the BRS, KCR criticized the ongoing military operation in Chhattisgarh, describing it as a “massacre” that unjustly targets tribals and youth. He emphasized that the Maoists have expressed a willingness for dialogue, and the government should engage with them to explore peaceful resolutions.
“It is not right to continue a killing spree simply because you have the forces,” KCR stated, urging the Centre to halt the operation and consider the Maoists’ call for peace talks.
In his address, KCR also launched a scathing attack on the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of failing to fulfill its electoral promises. He claimed that the Congress had reversed the progress made during the BRS tenure, particularly in areas such as irrigation, farmers’ welfare, and power supply.
Highlighting specific unfulfilled promises, KCR pointed out that the Congress had pledged a Rs 2 lakh farm loan waiver, Rs 2,500 monthly assistance for women, and one tola of gold under the Kalayana Lakshmi scheme. However, he alleged that none of these commitments had been implemented, leaving the people disillusioned.
KCR expressed concern over the current state of Telangana, noting issues like power cuts, farmers losing motors for their pump sets, and a lack of water supply. He vowed that the BRS would continue to fight on behalf of the people and assured that the Congress would face a “befitting lesson” for betraying the public’s trust.
The BRS leader concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the state’s development and the welfare of its people, asserting that the party would persist in its efforts to uphold Telangana’s interests.
This public meeting marked KCR’s first major address in several months, signaling the BRS’s renewed focus on state and national issues ahead of upcoming elections.
