Hyderabad: K. Chandrasekhar Rao, President of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), criticized the Congress-led government in Telangana on Saturday for its purported failure to fulfill electoral commitments such as the farm loan waiver and the effective implementation of welfare initiatives.
Speaking at a gathering in Mancherial as part of his ongoing ‘bus yatra’ in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he expressed concern that key initiatives of his administration, such as uninterrupted power supply, potable water provision, and the ‘Rythu Bandhu’ farmers’ investment support scheme, were not being executed adequately.
Rao raised concerns over incidents of conflict among women passengers due to the introduction of free travel for women on state-owned RTC buses. Additionally, he highlighted reported cases of suicides among auto-rickshaw drivers.
Questioning the fulfillment of Congress’ pledges, including the proposed Rs. 2 lakh farm loan waiver, Rs. 2,500 for women, and one-tola gold for young women upon marriage, Rao received a negative response from the audience.
He underscored issues faced by farmers, such as the absence of Minimum Support Price (MSP) and the lack of a promised bonus of Rs. 500 on MSP for paddy, alongside challenges in the procurement of agricultural produce.
Furthermore, Rao accused the Congress administration of orchestrating the privatization of Singareni Collieries, a major employer in the state, following Chief Minister’s engagements with corporate entities during a visit to Davos.
In his critique of the BJP-led central government, Rao contended that flagship initiatives like the ‘depositing Rs. 15 lakh in the accounts of the poor’ and schemes such as ‘beti bachao beti padhao’ and ‘doubling farmers’ income’ had failed to yield substantial improvements in the lives of citizens.
