Hyderabad: BRS Chief K Chandrashekar Rao Declines Invitation for Telangana Formation Day Celebrations
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief, K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), has declined Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s invitation to participate in the Telangana Formation Day celebrations at Parade Ground, Secunderabad, on June 2.
In an open letter to the Chief Minister, KCR accused him of failing to utter the slogan ‘Jai Telangana’ since taking office and showing no remorse for the hardships faced by the people of the state.
“The Congress party is disrespecting the movement and the sacrifices of the martyrs with its arrogant attitude, claiming that statehood was granted from above,” stated KCR, emphasizing that the BRS will not partake in the official function.
The letter also highlighted the plight of the farmers and criticized CM Revanth Reddy for not taking any steps to address their concerns.
Furthermore, KCR addressed the ongoing debate about changing Telangana’s emblem and state song. “Changing the logo is a diversion tactic. Removing Charminar and Kakatiya Thoranam is both dangerous and insulting. By installing statues of your party leaders instead of Telangana Thalli at the Secretariat, you are disrespecting Telangana,” KCR asserted in his letter to CM Revanth.
CM Revanth Reddy had previously objected to the old emblem, introduced by the former BRS party, claiming it reflected “kingship or monarchy,” which opposed Telangana’s struggle against dictatorial rule. “It did not reflect the sacrifices of the Telangana people, especially the youth,” he had stated.
“The new emblem and anthem of Telangana will embody the spirit of the State and its people, acknowledging the sacrifices of the youth. While the emblem will exclude the Kakatiya Thoranam, it will symbolize the Sammakka-Sarakka and Nagoba Jataras, representing the struggles and sacrifices of the people of Telangana,” the CM had said earlier.
BRS Organizes Candlelight March
On Saturday evening, the BRS organized a candlelight march from the Telangana Martyrs’ Stupa at Gunpark to the Amarajyoti in front of Dr. BR Ambedkar’s Telangana Secretariat to commemorate Telangana Formation Day. Party working president KT Rama Rao and senior leader T Harish Rao participated in the march.
KT Rama Rao, on his official X account, pointed out that the Gun Park Memorial, where the celebrations will take place, is being fenced with grills, evoking memories of the Emergency era.
He remarked, “In a bid to remind us of the Emergency days of Indiramma’s regime, the Martyr’s Memorial has been fenced with an iron grill.”
