Kejriwal’s Key Takeaway: Avoid Overconfidence After Haryana Poll Trends
New Delhi: As early trends in the Haryana assembly elections show the BJP leading in 50 out of 90 seats, AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal emphasized the importance of humility in politics, stating that the “biggest lesson” from the poll results is to never be “overconfident” during elections.
Addressing a gathering of AAP municipal councillors on October 8, Kejriwal remarked, “Let us see what the results are in Haryana. The biggest lesson of this is that one should never be overconfident in the elections. No election should be taken lightly. Each election and each seat is tough.”
The AAP’s decision to contest independently—fielding candidates in 89 out of the 90 seats—came after its request for nine seats in a pre-poll alliance with Congress was declined. As the results unfold, AAP candidates are trailing significantly behind their BJP and Congress counterparts.
Kejriwal had previously asserted that no government could be formed in Haryana without AAP’s support, a claim that now appears to be challenged by the current trends. He urged party councillors to focus on the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls scheduled for February, stressing the importance of effective garbage collection and disposal in their wards.
“You will have the most important role in this (Delhi) election. We will win the elections just if you ensure there is proper garbage collection and disposal from your areas,” he said, highlighting the grassroots efforts needed for success.
