Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed concern on Tuesday over the perceived lack of non-partisanship displayed by the Election Commission (EC) in addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks concerning Muslims.
Vijayan emphasized that the EC should have taken prompt action in response to the situation but has remained silent thus far.
“It is regrettable that the Election Commission did not demonstrate non-partisanship and act promptly,” stated Vijayan during a press conference.
Vijayan indicated that this matter may need to be addressed before the Supreme Court.
Additionally, Vijayan asserted that due to the prime minister’s statements, there is a growing anti-BJP sentiment in the country, which could further isolate the saffron party.
During a recent election rally in Rajasthan’s Banswara, Prime Minister Modi had stated that if the Congress were to come to power, it would redistribute people’s wealth to Muslims. He further alleged that the Congress intends to distribute the hard-earned money and valuables of the public to “infiltrators” and “those who have more children.”
Vijayan had previously criticized the prime minister’s remarks, accusing him of conducting a divisive campaign by fabricating stories to stoke anti-Muslim sentiments among the populace.
