Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Marks 79th Birthday with Low-Key Celebration
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will observe his 79th birthday on Friday in a modest manner, with no extravagant celebrations planned. A glass of payasam (sweet pudding) was served at his official residence to his family and staff members.
According to sources close to the Chief Minister, there are no significant celebrations scheduled for the day. “He will chair a cabinet meeting today, with no specific birthday programs planned,” the sources added.
Notably, Chief Minister Vijayan also opted for a subdued observance of his government’s 8th anniversary a few days ago.
Since assuming office on May 25, 2016, Vijayan has identified May 24 as his birthday, although Kerala Assembly records indicate his birthday is on March 21.
As a prominent figure in the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Vijayan served as the longest-serving secretary of the Kerala State Committee of the CPI-M from 1998 to 2015. He is also the first Chief Minister of Kerala to be re-elected after completing a full term of five years in office.
In 2022, Vijayan became the longest continuously serving Chief Minister of Kerala, surpassing C. Achutha Menon, who held the office for 2,364 consecutive days.
