Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has made bold assertions about the stability of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s NDA government, predicting its potential collapse due to a lack of majority.
Kharge stated, “Modi’s coalition government is a minority, formed by mistake, and could fall at any moment. However, we do not wish for its collapse. We hope for positive developments for the country and are ready to cooperate fully to strengthen it. Unfortunately, the Prime Minister has not continued the good work.”
Kharge’s remarks have sparked backlash from NDA allies, who accuse him of forgetting Congress’s own history of coalition governments. “Didn’t PV Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh lead without a majority? Doesn’t Kharge remember Congress’s history?” a JDU leader retorted.
The recent elections saw the NDA alliance winning 293 seats, with the BJP securing 240 seats, falling short of the majority they achieved in previous elections. Critics pointed out that in 1991, Congress formed a government with 244 seats under PV Narasimha Rao, and in 2004, Manmohan Singh became Prime Minister with just 114 seats, supported by allies.
