Virat Kohli Hails Team India’s Strength and Depth After ICC Champions Trophy Victory

Dubai, March 9: Virat Kohli, one of India’s stalwart players, was elated after the team’s ICC Champions Trophy final win against New Zealand, not just for clinching the silverware but also for the incredible depth and talent within the squad. Kohli expressed his belief that India possesses a squad capable of dominating world cricket for the next eight years.

India successfully chased down a target of 252, with Rohit Sharma’s 76-run knock setting the foundation, while Shreyas Iyer’s 48 and KL Rahul’s unbeaten 34 steered the team over the line with an over to spare. Contributions from Axar Patel (29) and Hardik Pandya (18) helped in completing the chase in a thrilling contest.

“It’s been amazing,” Kohli said after the match. “We wanted to bounce back after a tough Australian tour, and wanted to win a big tournament. So winning the Champions Trophy is fantastic. The talent in the dressing room is incredible. Everyone is trying to take their game to the next level, and we’re just happy to share our experience to help them. That’s what makes this Indian team so strong.”

Kohli further emphasized the team’s unity and resilience, pointing out that everyone had stepped up at different points during the tournament to contribute impactful performances. “These are the moments you play for – titles, playing under pressure, and stepping up. The whole team has been outstanding, and we’ve worked hard in practice. It feels amazing to win.”

Looking ahead, Kohli said, “When you leave, you want to leave the team in a better place, and I believe we have a squad that’s ready to take on the world for the next 8 years. Shubman has been exceptional, Shreyas has played some top knocks, KL has finished games, and Hardik has been superb with the bat.”

The 36-year-old also took a moment to acknowledge New Zealand’s competitive spirit and praised their attacking style of play. “We’ve always been in awe of what they can do with their limited talent pool, yet they execute their plans so well. They’re always attacking and supportive of their bowlers, and their fielding unit is easily the best. It’s sad to see my good friend Kane Williamson on the losing side, but they keep doing the basics right, and that’s what makes them such a tough team.”

With this victory, India secured their third Champions Trophy title, the most by any team in the eight-team tournament, further solidifying their dominance on the world stage.
