Virat Kohli Joins Delhi’s Ranji Trophy Squad for Upcoming Match Against Railways
Former India captain Virat Kohli has confirmed his availability for Delhi’s upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Railways, set to begin on January 30 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Kohli, who last played a Ranji Trophy match in 2012, participated in a practice session on Tuesday, engaging in group running, fielding drills, and even a brief football session with his Delhi teammates.
Kohli had expressed a keen interest in playing the match, communicating his availability to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Monday evening. This move comes as part of the broader emphasis on domestic cricket, particularly following India’s batting struggles during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Kohli’s participation in the Ranji Trophy game is seen as an important opportunity for him to regain form ahead of India’s international fixtures.
Delhi, currently placed fourth in the Elite Group D standings with 14 points from five matches, will be looking to secure wins in their remaining two games to advance to the knockout stages. The final round of Ranji Trophy group games will conclude just days before India’s first ODI against England in Nagpur on February 6. Kohli is also part of the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI series, which serves as a warm-up for the Champions Trophy in February.
Alongside Kohli, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is also featuring for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy games, adding more strength to the team as they strive for qualification.
