KTR Accuses BJP of Shielding Congress in Telangana Amid Musi Riverfront Controversy
Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of shielding the Congress party in Telangana, following the BJP’s “sleepover” protest at locations affected by the Musi Riverfront development project. KTR’s remarks came after Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and BJP leaders conducted a sleepover at the sites, promising support for those displaced by the project. KTR dismissed the BJP’s actions as a “ploy” to distract from protests in Lagacherla village against the Telangana government’s pharma city project.
In a post on X, KTR questioned Kishan Reddy’s sudden concern for the Musi project, recalling how the BJP leader had once praised the initiative. “You were the first to hail the Musi River rejuvenation project and congratulate Revanth Reddy, while we stood with the victims. What has changed now?” KTR asked.
During the BJP’s Musi Nidra campaign, which took place on November 16, Kishan Reddy expressed concerns over the large-scale displacement of residents along the Musi Riverbanks due to the riverfront project, though he made it clear the BJP was not opposed to the project itself. Instead, the party voiced its objections to the demolition of poor people’s homes. Reddy’s move was presented as an effort to reassure those affected by the project, vowing that the BJP would stand by them if their homes were demolished.
In response, KTR launched a scathing attack on the BJP and the Congress, claiming that the two parties were collaborating in a “drama” to protect their mutual interests. He accused Reddy and other BJP leaders of playing “dirty politics” in an effort to shield the Congress and maintain their own agendas, labeling the entire situation as a joint effort between “fellow thieves.”
The dispute over the Musi Riverfront development and the ongoing political maneuvering reflects the heightened tensions in Telangana as the state prepares for upcoming elections.
