Hyderabad: Criticizing Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for omitting the Kakatiya arch and Charminar from the new official emblem of Telangana, BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) questioned the motivation behind removing these significant symbols of Telangana’s heritage.
KTR expressed his concerns in an open letter addressed to the Chief Minister, which he posted on X on Tuesday. This letter followed the Chief Minister’s announcement that all traces of monarchy would be removed from Telangana’s official emblem, to be unveiled on June 2.
KTR reminded the Chief Minister that the splendor of Kakatiya art, as seen in the Ramappa temple, is celebrated in Telangana’s new official anthem “Jaya Jayahe Telangana,” adopted by the state government. He questioned the exclusion of the Kakatiya arch in the new emblem.
Highlighting the Charminar’s status as an iconic symbol of Hyderabad’s global fame, KTR argued that its removal from the emblem was an affront to the sentiments of Telangana’s four crore population. He questioned whether Karnataka’s state emblem contained no traces of monarchy and asked if the Congress intended to alter that as well.
KTR also noted that India’s national emblem includes the Ashoka Stupa’s three lions and the Dharma Chakra. He suggested that the Congress government aimed to erase the BRS’s political legacy by altering the official emblems, warning that such actions would not be tolerated.
In response, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy informed the media that poet Ande Sri, who wrote the lyrics for the new state anthem, had been granted the freedom to compose its tune. Revanth stated that Ande Sri was free to seek assistance from anyone for the composition.
Revanth also mentioned that all those who had fought for Telangana’s statehood would be invited to the grand celebrations of Telangana Formation Day on June 2.
