BRS Leaders Condemn Amit Shah’s Remarks on Dr. Ambedkar
K. T. Rama Rao, working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has strongly criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks on Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, calling them “shameful.” Rama Rao took to social media to voice his condemnation of Shah’s statements made during a debate in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, which marked the 75th anniversary of India’s Constitution.
Rama Rao described the remarks as insensitive, asserting that Dr. Ambedkar will always be revered as one of the greatest leaders and intellectuals who championed the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity. He emphasized that Ambedkar’s legacy would remain strong in the hearts of Indians for generations to come, regardless of the views held by those in power.
“The power of the people will always matter more than the opinions of those in power,” Rama Rao added.
In a similar vein, BRS leader Krishank Manne also expressed outrage, asserting that Amit Shah and his predecessors failed to understand that for many in India, Dr. Ambedkar is worshipped as a divine figure.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Y. S. Sharmila also condemned the remarks, accusing Amit Shah of insulting Dr. Ambedkar and reflecting the BJP’s arrogance. She criticized Shah for his comments, which she believed hurt the sentiments of Dalits, tribals, backward classes, and minorities.
Sharmila further alleged that the BJP, driven by its belief in the Manusmriti, has been attempting to undermine the Indian Constitution. “Every time they ridicule the father of the Constitution, it shows their disrespect for both the Constitution and the national flag,” she stated. Sharmila demanded that Amit Shah resign from his position and apologize to the nation for the offense caused by his comments.
