BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has voiced deep concern over the alarming number of farmer suicides reported in Maharashtra, where 767 farmers have taken their lives in just the first three months of BJP rule. Calling it a “national shame”, KTR noted that a farmer is dying by suicide every three hours — a grim statistic that demands immediate national attention.
Speaking on Saturday, KTR urged every Indian citizen to take these tragedies seriously and demand meaningful change. He stated that India’s priority should not be advanced artificial intelligence, but rather a stronger, more compassionate agricultural system.
In a veiled criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “double-engine” governance rhetoric, KTR remarked, “Empty slogans will not yield results on the ground.” He asserted that what India truly needs is a robust and farmer-focused model — such as the one implemented in Telangana under former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).
Highlighting key aspects of the Telangana model, KTR listed initiatives like:
- Rythu Bandhu: Direct investment support for farmers
- Crop Insurance: Assistance during natural calamities
- Rythu Bima: Life insurance for farmers
- Kaleshwaram Project: A massive irrigation scheme transforming arid lands
- Procurement Network: Ensuring MSP (Minimum Support Price) for crops
He emphasized that such an agricultural framework is essential for a country where farming remains a major livelihood. “This isn’t about politics; it’s about understanding farmers, standing with them, and acting with purpose,” KTR concluded.
