Journalist Attacked in Hyderabad: KTR Condemns Assault, Questions Democracy
Hyderabad: In a troubling incident that raises concerns about press freedom and political violence, Congress workers allegedly attacked journalist Chiluka Praveen Kumar on Thursday, October 3, as he was returning home. The attack occurred in Somajiguda, leading to Kumar being admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) condemned the assault in a post on social media platform X, questioning the state of democracy in Telangana. He stated, “We strongly condemn the indiscriminate attack on journalist Chiluka Praveen by Congress goons. Is this democracy or tyranny? Does people’s governance mean attacking those who question it?”
KTR highlighted a “growing trend” of targeting individuals, including public representatives, journalists, and students, who dare to question the government’s actions. He attributed the rising intolerance to an environment where physical attacks on journalists have become more common, particularly among Congress activists. The former minister called for the immediate arrest of those responsible for the attack.
Former Telangana Energy Minister G. Jagdish Reddy, along with former MLAs Gadari Kishore and B. Bhikshamiah, visited Kumar in the hospital to express their support and solidarity.
As the investigation unfolds, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by journalists in exercising their right to report freely and the urgent need for accountability and protection for those in the media.
