KTR Condemns Delay in Pension Distribution as Elderly Protest in Telangana
In a recent incident in Dhanwada Mandal of Narayanpet district, elderly citizens took to the streets in protest, demanding the timely disbursement of pensions, which had been delayed multiple times. The protests sparked a strong reaction from BRS Working President and former minister, K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), who expressed his deep concern on social media over the situation.
The elderly protestors staged a dharna, frustrated by the recurring delays in receiving their pensions. KTR, in his comments on X (formerly Twitter), questioned the turn of events, stating, “Who would have thought this would happen? Who imagined that elderly citizens in Telangana would have to protest on the streets for their pensions, or that the funds which were supposed to be credited smoothly into their accounts would be stalled?”
KTR further criticized the government’s priorities, pointing out that while ₹1.5 lakh crore was being allocated to beautify the Musi River, pension funds meant for the elderly were being withheld. “While ₹1.5 lakh crore is allocated for beautifying the Musi River, the pension funds meant for the elderly are withheld mercilessly,” KTR remarked, highlighting the government’s misplaced priorities.
In his statement, KTR expressed his sympathy for the elderly, pointing to a painful reversal in their situation. He noted, “From the days when they no longer had to beg their children or daughters-in-law for expenses, we are now witnessing a painful reversal where they are forced to plead again. Who foresaw this so-called ‘change’ taking such a regressive turn?”
He also made a stark comparison with the past, saying, “In the ruthless era of Indiramma’s rule, troubles plagued every household. Who could have imagined a revival of such widespread difficulties? Who predicted that the promise of change would end up being so deceptive?”
KTR’s remarks reflect the growing frustration among the elderly in Telangana, who are now struggling to receive their rightful pensions, despite promises of support and welfare under the state government.
