BRS to Rename Telangana Locations and Criticize Congress for Rajiv Gandhi Statue
Hyderabad: KT Rama Rao, working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), announced on August 19 that the BRS plans to rename various locations across Telangana to honor prominent local figures. His statement came in response to the Congress party’s recent installation of a Rajiv Gandhi statue in front of the Secretariat.
Rama Rao criticized the Congress for what he termed as attempts to undermine Telangana’s pride, declaring that the BRS would remove the Rajiv Gandhi statue from its current location if they come to power. He emphasized that the statue would be relocated as per Congress’s wishes, and the Telangana Talli statue would replace it in front of the Secretariat.
The BRS leader accused Congress of historical injustices against Telangana, stating that the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad would also be renamed after a prominent Telangana figure under BRS governance. He cited examples from other cities, like Mumbai and Bengaluru, which are named after local historical figures, and questioned why Hyderabad should continue to honor Rajiv Gandhi.
Rama Rao also criticized the Congress government’s handling of women’s safety, pointing to past incidents of violence and inadequate police response. He highlighted the BRS’s initiatives, such as She Teams and Bharosa Centers, as models for addressing women’s safety and urged Congress to follow these measures.
In summary, Rama Rao’s remarks reflect a strong stance against Congress’s recent actions and a firm commitment by the BRS to reshape Telangana’s public spaces and policies in alignment with their vision for the state.
