Palakkad: Legal Action Against LDF MLA P V Anwar Over Comments Against Rahul Gandhi
The Left Democratic Front (LDF) MLA P V Anwar has faced legal consequences for his remarks targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, branding him a “fourth-grade citizen” and suggesting an examination of his DNA. Anwar made these statements during an election meeting in Palakkad district, Kerala, on April 22.
Subsequently, on Friday, April 26, a case was registered against Anwar at Nattukal police station following the directives of a magisterial court. The FIR cited offences under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code (promoting enmity between different groups) and Section 125 of the Representation of People Act (promoting enmity between classes in connection with elections).
This legal action stemmed from a complaint filed by advocate Baiju Noel Rosario.
Anwar’s comments arose amidst Rahul Gandhi’s criticism regarding the exemption of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan from interrogation and arrest by central agencies, despite allegations against the Left leader. However, Vijayan defended Anwar’s remarks, asserting that criticism of Gandhi was within the bounds of public discourse.
