Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Petitions Delhi High Court for Bail in Liquor Policy Scam Case
New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently under 14-day judicial custody until July 12 in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam, has sought bail from the Delhi High Court.
On Wednesday, his bail plea was presented before a bench led by Acting Chief Justice (ACJ) Manmohan for urgent listing. Kejriwal’s lawyer requested that the hearing be scheduled for Thursday. The ACJ assured that the petition would be heard on Friday, July 5.
The Delhi High Court issued a notice on Tuesday regarding Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Justice Neena Bansal Krishna directed the CBI to respond by July 17.
Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI on June 26 and presented before the Rouse Avenue Court, where he was remanded to three-day CBI custody for interrogation. The court permitted the CBI to produce Kejriwal in the special court after questioning him in Tihar Jail.
Recently, the Delhi High Court stayed a trial court order that had granted bail to Kejriwal in a money laundering case, citing that the lower court had not fully considered the documents and arguments presented.
In May, the Supreme Court reserved its verdict on Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest and remand by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the excise policy case. The apex court granted him a 21-day interim bail in light of the general elections.
