In a bold move that reflects their confidence in the film’s content, the makers of Maargan, an investigative fantasy thriller directed by acclaimed editor-turned-director Leo John Paul, announced they will release the first six minutes of the film ahead of its theatrical debut on June 27.
Taking to social media on Tuesday, lead actor Vijay Antony shared the news with fans via his X handle, writing:
“#MAARGAN’s first 6 minutes releasing tomorrow at 6 PM. Three days to go. #maarganfromjune27.”
The decision to preview the opening segment before release is a rare and strategic one in Indian cinema, aimed at building anticipation and drawing viewers to theatres by offering a taste of the suspense and intrigue that await.
An Intriguing Blend of Crime and Fantasy
Maargan has already generated significant buzz following the release of its trailer, which showcases Vijay Antony in the role of Dhruv, a determined Mumbai police officer battling personal loss while hunting a serial killer. The killer’s disturbing modus operandi involves drugging young women with a mysterious substance that leaves their bodies charred. As the investigation unfolds, the storyline teases a much deeper mystery. The police’s prime suspect may not be who—or what—they expected.
A Unique Cinematic Vision
Speaking to IANS, director Leo John Paul explained the innovative genre fusion in Maargan:
“About 40% of the film revolves around investigation, while the remaining 60% delves into mystery—specifically, astral travel. If you observe the final shot of the trailer, you’ll see a character’s astral body leaving their physical form. Fantasy is a genre close to my heart as it allows cinema to transcend reality.”
With this directorial debut, Leo John Paul—renowned for his work as an editor—combines fantasy and thriller elements to create an immersive cinematic experience.
Strong Supporting Cast and Crew
The film features a notable ensemble including Ajay Dhishan, Samuthirakani, Brigida, Deepshikha, Mahanathi Shankar, and Vinodh Sagar. The music is composed by Vijay Antony himself, while cinematography is handled by S. Yuva. The film is edited by Leo John Paul and produced by Fatima Vijay Antony under Vijay Antony Film Corporation.
With its compelling narrative, genre-bending storyline, and early sneak peek, Maargan is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated thrillers of the year.
