The Telugu Film Industry experienced another setback as yesterday’s releases, including “Honeymoon Express” and Varun Sandesh’s “Ninda,” failed to make a significant impact.
With the upcoming release of “Kalki 2898 AD” on June 27, no major films have capitalized on the opportunity, allowing smaller films to fill the gap. Unfortunately, none of these smaller films succeeded. However, there is a glimmer of hope.
In a period when Telugu theatres were grappling with a series of underwhelming releases, Vijay Sethupathi’s latest film “Maharaja” has emerged as a much-needed savior, providing a significant boost at the box office. The crime thriller, which premiered on June 14, has been steadily gaining traction, with occupancy rates increasing over the weekend.
This timely resurgence has provided much-needed relief to Telugu theatres, which were experiencing a drought of successful releases. On Saturday, the audience turnout for “Maharaja” surpassed the combined attendance for all other films at the Telugu box office.
“Maharaja” has proven to be a resounding success in the Telugu states, reaching a safe zone within the first week of its release. The film has grossed over 50 crores worldwide, with a substantial portion of the revenue generated from the Telugu states.
