BRS MLA Marri Rajashekhar Reddy Raises Concerns Over Waqf Board’s Failure to Protect Lands from Encroachment

Hyderabad: Malkajgiri BRS MLA Marri Rajashekhar Reddy has expressed serious concerns over the alleged failure of the Waqf Board to protect its lands from encroachment. In a statement, Reddy criticized the board for its apparent inaction in addressing illegal occupations of Waqf properties, questioning the board’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the poor and underprivileged.

The MLA pointed to the Waqf Board’s recent claim of ownership over 750 acres of land in Malkajgiri but expressed frustration that the board had not taken any effective measures to prevent encroachment. He suggested that the lack of enforcement might be linked to political influences, which could be hindering the board’s ability to act decisively.

Concerns Over Survey Numbers and Land Registrations

Reddy specifically highlighted the situation surrounding the 398 and 399 survey numbers in his constituency, which remain under dispute despite not being included in the Waqf Board’s banned land list. He criticized the board for halting registrations on certain survey numbers while simultaneously including controversial lands in the prohibited list without conducting proper investigations.

The MLA emphasized the need for a comprehensive survey to determine ownership and clarify the status of these disputed lands. He pointed out that, according to Section 52A of the Waqf Act, notices should be issued to current occupants of these lands, and cases should be filed at local police stations against encroachers. However, he noted that this action has not been taken.

Questioning the Reluctance of Waqf Officials

Rajashekhar Reddy raised pointed questions regarding the apparent reluctance of Waqf officials to take action against encroachments. He asked whether local police or other authorities were influencing the inaction, expressing disbelief that encroachments could occur without the knowledge or involvement of Waqf officials, particularly the local inspectors who are supposed to monitor and prevent such activities.

Furthermore, Reddy revealed that nearly 70 colonies within his constituency fall under the prohibited survey numbers, and yet, no notices have been issued to these illegal occupants. He criticized the authorities for failing to take timely action to prevent the encroachment of these lands.

Demand for Criminal Action Against Encroachers

In conclusion, the MLA demanded immediate criminal action against those responsible for encroaching on Waqf properties, as per the regulations of the Waqf Board. He called for stronger enforcement measures and questioned the efficacy of the current system in safeguarding these important lands.
