Kejriwal Claims MCD Sanitation Workers Receive Salaries and Bonuses Before Diwali
AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal announced on October 30 that all sanitation workers employed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have received their salaries, along with a Diwali bonus, before the end of the month for the first time in the organization’s history.
At a joint press conference with Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi, Kejriwal revealed that approximately Rs 23 crore in bonuses and salaries have been credited to the accounts of around 64,000 sanitation workers. He highlighted the achievement as a significant improvement over the previous BJP administration, which he alleged frequently delayed salaries by six to eight months, often necessitating protests by workers to receive their dues.
“During BJP’s tenure, corruption was rampant and employees had to struggle for their dues. Under AAP, in the past two years, salaries are credited in the first week of every month, and no sanitation worker has had to protest,” Kejriwal stated.
He further emphasized the importance of timely payments, especially in light of the upcoming Diwali festival, noting that this initiative allows workers to celebrate with their families. “This is the first time in the history of the MCD that employees have received their salaries before the month-end,” he added.
Kejriwal’s remarks reflect a broader commitment by the AAP government to improve the welfare of municipal workers, aiming to ensure financial stability and timely remuneration for those responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the capital.
