PM Modi Pays Tribute to Dr. Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored the legacy of Dr. Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan, the former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), during the 121st episode of his radio program, Mann Ki Baat.
Dr. Kasturirangan, who passed away on April 25 at the age of 84, was instrumental in steering India’s space program to new heights during his tenure from 1994 to 2003. Under his leadership, ISRO achieved significant milestones, including the successful launches of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV). His tenure also saw the development of advanced remote sensing satellites and the initiation of India’s planetary exploration endeavors, notably the Chandrayaan-1 mission .
Beyond his contributions to space science, Dr. Kasturirangan played a pivotal role in shaping India’s educational landscape. He chaired the committee responsible for drafting the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aiming to create a more holistic and forward-looking education system .
In his tribute, PM Modi described Dr. Kasturirangan as a “towering figure in India’s scientific and educational journey.” He emphasized that Dr. Kasturirangan’s visionary leadership and selfless contributions would always be remembered, highlighting his dedication to innovation and his efforts to inspire the younger generation .
