US President-Elect Trump’s Cabinet Picks Targeted by Violent Threats, Including Bomb Threats and ‘Swatting’ Incidents
Washington, Nov 28 – Several of US President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet and administration picks have been targeted by bomb threats and “swatting” incidents, the Trump transition team revealed on Wednesday.
Karoline Leavitt, spokesperson for the Trump transition team, confirmed the attacks, which she described as “violent, un-American threats” aimed at the lives of Trump’s nominees and their families. The threats reportedly ranged from bomb scares to swatting incidents, though specific details regarding the individuals targeted were not disclosed.
“Those attacks ranged from bomb threats to ‘swatting’,” Leavitt said in a statement. “Law enforcement and other authorities acted quickly to ensure the safety of those targeted.”
Swatting refers to the dangerous practice of falsely reporting an emergency, typically involving police or SWAT teams, in order to provoke a heavily armed and potentially dangerous response at an innocent person’s location.
Among those targeted by these threats were high-profile nominees, including Susie Wiles, Trump’s incoming White House chief of staff, Pam Bondi, the former Florida attorney general nominated as the next US attorney general, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who was chosen as the US ambassador to the United Nations, Howard Lutnick, Trump’s pick for secretary of commerce, and Brooke Rollins, nominated for secretary of agriculture.
Law enforcement agencies are investigating the incidents to ensure the safety of the officials involved and to track down the perpetrators behind these acts of intimidation.
