Hyderabad: Nagarjuna Sagar Dam Opens 26 Crest Gates to Manage Flood Water; Woman Rescued After Canal Fall
Hyderabad: On Thursday, August 29, the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam management opened 26 crest gates to release 345,795 cusecs of flood water collected from upstream in the Krishna River. This action was taken to manage the dam’s water levels, which currently stand at 589.70 feet, nearing the full capacity of 590 feet. On Wednesday, 18 crest gates had been opened as part of the flood management effort.
The dam’s full capacity is being approached due to significant inflows from the Sri Sailam Dam upstream. In a related incident, a woman fell into the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Bank Canal while taking selfies with her family on Friday morning at Vemulapally mandal headquarters in Nalgonda District. Quick action by local residents led to her rescue, as they jumped into the canal, retrieved her, and used a rope to pull her to safety.
