Andhra Pradesh’s Infrastructure and Urban Development Minister K. Narayana today rolled out an ambitious progress report on the state’s flagship projects, from a futuristic airport to mass‑housing and urban transformation schemes.
Bhogapuram Airport: North Andhra’s New Hub
“Bhogapuram will redefine connectivity in North Coastal Andhra,” Minister Narayana declared.
Targeted for April 2026 completion, Bhogapuram International Airport—strategically located near Vizianagaram—now boasts 15 of 22 access roads at the brink of completion. Plans for the remaining six routes will be finalized within 115 days, in close coordination with the National Highways Authority of India. Once operational, passengers and cargo will glide seamlessly into the region.
TIDCO Housing: Dussehra Deliveries
The stalled TIDCO housing initiative is set for a dramatic revival. Narayana revealed that completing the 200,000 unfinished homes—out of 700,000 sanctioned—will require an estimated ₹7,000 crore.
“Under Chief Minister Naidu’s leadership, we’ll hand over these homes—prioritizing women beneficiaries—by Dussehra,” he pledged, spotlighting the social impact of secure housing.
AMRUT Water Scheme: ₹834 Crore Reinstated
After funds were withdrawn under the previous regime, the AMRUT mission has received a fresh infusion of ₹834 crore. Thanks to negotiations between the state and Centre, water‑supply work that stalled last year will resume:
“Within months, every household will enjoy piped water deliveries once more,” promised the minister.
Vizag Metro & Semi‑Ring Road: Urban Mobility Reimagined
Turning to urban transit, Narayana announced that construction of the Visakhapatnam Metro—featuring a striking double‑deck design—will kick off in October, based on the approved DPR. To decongest the city, plans are also in motion for a semi‑ring road, mirroring Hyderabad’s famed ring road.
“These initiatives will fast‑track Vizag’s evolution into a smart, sustainable metropolis,” Narayana concluded.
