“Chennai: The BJP-led NDA made significant gains in two southern states, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, while the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu and Congress in Kerala appeared poised for strong performances based on the latest trends from the ongoing Lok Sabha election results.
Focusing intensely on the southern region, the BJP invested considerable effort to maximize gains from the 131 parliamentary seats across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and the union territories of Lakshadweep and Puducherry.
As per the latest update from the Election Commission, the BJP led in 18 out of 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, with its ally JD(S) leading in three seats, while the ruling Congress nominees led in seven seats.
In Andhra Pradesh, the NDA led in 20 out of 25 Lok Sabha constituencies, with the TDP led by N Chandrababu Naidu ahead in 15 seats, and BJP and Janasena Party leading in three and two seats respectively. Candidates from the ruling YSRCP were leading in the remaining seats.
Telangana witnessed a close contest with the ruling party leading in eight seats and BJP ahead in seven seats, while AIMIM and BRS were leading in one seat each.
In Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the blocs led by DMK and Congress respectively were advancing strongly, indicating potential sweeps similar to their 2019 electoral successes in these states. According to the Election Commission’s latest trends for 38 out of 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, DMK led in 20 seats, with the alliance ahead in 36 seats. Opposition parties AIADMK and NDA constituent PMK were leading in one seat each.
In Kerala, the Congress-led UDF was on track for a significant lead, with Congress leading in 13 out of 20 seats and its ally IUML ahead in two seats. UDF constituents KEC and RSP led in one seat each. BJP led in two seats, including Thrissur, while the ruling CPI(M) led in one seat according to the latest EC updates.
Congress also led in Lakshadweep and the NDA-ruled Puducherry.”
