FASTag, an electronic toll collection system utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, facilitates seamless toll payments and is designed to reduce congestion at toll plazas. Affixed to a vehicle’s windscreen, FASTag allows for automated toll deductions without requiring a stop.
Launched in 2014, FASTag has expanded significantly, covering over 500 highways across India. As of September 2019, over 5.4 million vehicles were equipped with FASTag. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) mandated its use for all vehicles at national highway toll plazas starting February 15, 2021.
